'Prometheus' Plot Synopsis: Humanity's Future Is At Stake!

by Brian Phares Big news for sci-fi fans: Ridley Scott has finally taken the wraps off his far-too-secretive-for-my-tastes science fiction opus, "Prometheus." And what an opus it is! For far too long we at MTV News, -- not to mention the entire world at large -- have been wondering, just what is "Prometheus" all about, "Alien" DNA aside? Is it a direct "Alien" prequel? Will it tell us who the masters of the massive downed spacecraft the crew of the Nostromo find in the original Alien were? Well, it looks like the answers to both questions remain unanswered, but "Prometheus" could still very well blow our minds with the origins of mankind, and the fate of the universe. Check out the official synopsis below if you dont believe me. Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Wow, just wow. I guess Patrick Wilson wasnt lying when he told us Prometheus would blow our minds. Consider mine blown. But I am curious, what is there to learn about the origins of mankind we dont already know? What key piece of information does the team find that flies in the face of everything we know about evolution? And most importantly, how does this lead them to the far corners of the universe? Lastly of course, what alien race will the crew inevitably encounter to battle for the survival of humanity? June 2012 cannot come soon enough, and I am currently hard at work on a time machine that can take me there. If I am successful, youll be the first to hear my review. Check out what Michael Fassbender has already told us about the plot of "Prometheus" in the video below: Tell us what you think of the "Prometheus" plot synopsis in the comments section and on Twitter!

Players might be answer to three dimensional TV sales

Players could be among the key marketplaces driving three dimensional TV sales, based on research presented Thursday in the three dimensional Gaming Summit.Serta Casey, senior Vice president at research firm Interpret, stated the business's surveys reveal that players would rather experience three dimensional playing console games before a bigscreen three dimensional TV. Consequently, players are showing almost double the amount curiosity about three dimensional TV as non-players.Satisfaction among customers who've attempted three dimensional in a medium remains high, stated Casey. However some players know about three dimensional gaming, most haven't attempted it yet. "This is a huge chance," stated Casey.Despite high satisfaction, three dimensional players were split on whether stereoscopic viewing enhanced action. 28% stated it detracted from game play, while 20% stated it enhanced game play.Casey stated consumer education is essential anytime three dimensional is introduced in new items. "three dimensional is an extremely confusing technology to numerous people," he stated. Contact David S. Cohen at david.cohen@variety.com

Unilever, Chrysler/Dodge Targeted in 'Playboy Club' Ad Boycott Campaign

The soft ratings performance of NBC's The Playboy Club may be icing on the cake for the Parents Television Council, who is now targeting Unilever and Chrysler/Dodge for showing advertisements during Monday's premiere telecast.our editor recommends'Playboy Club': Gloria Steinem Advocates Boycott of NBC Series'The Playboy Club' Showrunner: 'There's a Perception of the Show That's False'NBC's 'The Playboy Club' Argues It's All About Women's EmpowermentNBC's 'The Playboy Club' Finds New Salt Lake City Affiliate Hellmann's Mayonnaise and P.F. Chang's Home Menu were some of the Unilever brands that were advertised during the episode. Members are being asked to call, send letters and make actual visits to Chrysler/Dodge dealerships calling out their support of The Playboy Club. PHOTOS: Fall TV Death Pool: Which Show Will Be Axed First? "The ratings for The Playboy Club speak for themselves. Clearly, Americans aren't interested in tuning in to a show that amounts to little more than a chauvinistic advertisement for the Playboy brand. Advertisers should take a cue from viewers and find something else to support," said PTC president Tim Winter. "I think once they see the show and where future episodes can go, there's really nothing to be concerned about," Playboy Club executive producer Chad Hodge told The Hollywood Reporter in response to complaints about the show. PHOTOS: Fall's 12 Most Anticipated Shows On Monday, The Playboy Club delivered a weak 5 million total viewers and a 1.6 rating in the ad-coveted 18-49 demographic at 10 p.m. following a soft lead-in with a two-hour premiere of The Sing-Off. Additionally, the PTC is reaching out to all companies that took part in the series and before the show even premiered on NBC, the organization issued a letter to advertisers asking them not to buy ad time because of the drama's objectification of women. PHOTOS: Fall TV Preview: The New Shows The NBC series has had its critics. "Clearly The Playboy Club is not going to be accurate. It was the tackiest place on earth. It was not glamorous at all," said women's rights leader Gloria Steinem, who once worked undercover at the NY City nightclub to report on its conditions said earlier this summer. In mid-June, a Utah television station, KSL-TV, decided to opt out of airing the controversial show because of objectionable content. "The Playboy brand is known internationally," KSL president and CEOMark Willessaid in a statement. "Everyone is clear what it stands for. We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand." NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt didn't seem concerned, telling THR, "They have to do what they have to do. If I thought it was inappropriate to the brand, I wouldn't put it on. Kevin Costner walks away from Tarantino's Django Unchained

Just when we thought Quentin Tarantino was bringing together the most awesome cast of all time for his slave western Django Unchained, one of the folks we were most excited about seeing has left the project.Kevin Costner, rumoured to be playing Ace Woody (one of lead villain's Calvin Candie's key crew), has passed on the picture, citing 'scheduling conflicts.'It looks like Costner would rather make a TV movie entitled The Hatfields & The McCoys for the History Channel with his old pal Kevin Reynolds than work with the most exciting living director in the world. But Kevin is also appearing in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot Man Of Steel, so maybe his role in that is bigger than we first thought.Either way, Tarantino will now have to find a new Ace. The gossips are currently suggesting Danny McBride, but we're not sure if we see it. Costner and McBride couldn't be more different. And we're particularly disappointed that Costner has dropped out, as we were looking forward to watching Django and Fandango in a Kevin Costner-themed rhyming double-bill. That dream is over.

Toronto Film Festival: A Talk with 'The Artist' Director (Video)

Toronto Film Festival: A Talk with 'The Artist' Director (Video) By Jenelle Riley September 15, 2011 Michel Hazanavicius One of the biggest hits on the festival circuit is "The Artist," which earned standing ovations at Cannes, Telluride, and Toronto. It's an actual silent movie, shot in black and white, with two French actors in the lead roles--and is pretty much a lock for a Best Picture nomination come Oscar time. People are falling in love with the movie, which tells the story of silent movie star George Valentin (played by Jean Djuardin), who finds his career threatened with the innovation of talking pictures. But mostly, it's a love story, as Valentin falls for an upcoming starlet named Peppy Miller (Brnice Bejo.)The movie is clever and fun and a good old-fashioned romance, wonderfully directed by French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius--who, in the above video, explains his vision of the film. I also just learned Hazanavicius is actually married to Bejo, and Bejo couldn't be in Toronto because she's a couple weeks away from giving birth to their child. I completely fell in love with Bejo in this film. But I did get to speak with the very charming Djuardin, through a translator, who told me this is actually his fourth film with Hazanavicius. "But our previous films were comedies," he said. "So I wasn't so much worried about making a silent film as I was about making a melodrama." Another interesting thing Djuardin said was that in France, they don't call what an actor does acting. "The word we use in French is 'play.' As in, actors play. It's a difference, I think, between American and French actors." Clothes minded: Fashion flirts with film

Anita Ekberg's black outfits in 'La Dolce Vita' sparked fashion trend. The mobile phone industry's of favor and film happen to be winking at one another increasingly more previously couple of years. Every designer from Prada to Kate Spade to Gareth Pugh has first showed an arty video clip to market an assortment, handbag or limited-edition perfume. Last spring, Miu Miu began a number of shorts directed by women having a moody piece by Hollywood film heiress Zoe Cassavetes. But it is the venerable house of Gucci -- turning an adult yet spirited 90 this season -- which has walked as the premiere stumper for celluloid. In the approaching Venice Film Festival, Gucci will fete women with a brand new award praising Women in Cinema. The runners up are refreshingly diverse, with rising American actress Jessica Chastain ("The Tree of Existence") competing against Italian film writer Federica Pontremoli ("The Whitened Space") -- it is a gracious jerk towards the less glamorous behind-the-moments business of film to incorporate a producer and costume designer among nominees. Gucci will also support documentaries by providing a finishing fund for works happening using the Tribeca Film Institute. But Gucci's major dedication to film -- restoration and upkeep -- implies that the look home is truly acting wear and tear. Previously 5 years, Gucci has contributed a lot more than $1.7 million to Martin Scorsese's non-profit passion project the Film Foundation. Its newest overhauls incorporate a digital facelift for Luchino Visconti's 1963 "The Leopard" and Federico Fellini's 1960 "La Dolce Vita." Both movies feature standout costumes, but it is Anita Ekberg's famous black dress in the fountain scene of Fellini's romp that released a slew of copycats.Actually, the courtship of favor and film is similar to the wedding of two gorgeous celebrities. Designers fawn over lush films, which, showcase stunning clothes. Gucci designer Frida Giannini, who based her last men's collection about the chic '70s look of "The Way In Which I Was,Inch is not the only real fashion maven to title-check film as inspiration. Marc Jacobs has recommended Bernardo Bertolucci being an influence and also the Mulleavy siblings, behind the avant-garde Rodarte label, based among their runway collections on obscure Japanese horror films. One film that Gucci certainly will not be offering may be the much-spoken-about biopic of Patrizia Reggiani that Ridley Scott continues to be threatening to create since 2007.
